Dallas Ebola Victim’s Family and Hospital Reach Settlement

KATC-TV reported recently that the family of a patient who died from Ebola in a Dallas hospital reached a settlement with the healthcare facility concerning a medical malpractice claim.

The patient died in early October. He initially arrived in North Texas from Liberia in late September. After seeking treatment at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, the patient’s illness was misdiagnosed, and he was sent away from Presbyterian with antibiotics, an event the hospital now acknowledges was a mistake. The patient was brought back to Presbyterian two days later and diagnosed with Ebola.

The patient’s family has said they will use the money from the medical malpractice lawsuit settlement to create a charitable foundation in his name.
